I met someone at work who told me he will never be able to come out with his business. Just like me, he just turned 30. I mentioned that it takes sheer will and peseverance to get something like a company running. He mentions that people just don't care anymore. He mentions that people don't carry the same enthusiasm as he does when he mentions about his project or his goals.
I had a long chat with my significant other yesterday and she mentioned that not everyone can have the same mentality. She mentions that "we're all called individuals for a reason" and it hit me big time.
I've learned that when you want to reach a certain goal in life...
- You can't be concerned about people's lack of enthusiasm for your passions.
- You can't think about how people won't be there during the climb except when you come out on top.
- You can't think about how people mock or make fun of your lofty goal.
Directly or indirectly, people will say they support you but in the back of your mind you may feel that they are only saying so to humor you passively.
If you are a person trying to achieve that goal, how can you expect enthusiasm from anyone based on what comes from your mouth? Ever heard the saying "talk is cheap"?
The actual control of the ego
This is where your ego comes in. The ego is special because it can be your friend or your enemy. Your ego becomes your enemy when you think or resent the comments others have told you about your goals or presume that everyone doesn't care when in actuality...they do.
It becomes worse when you think about what you can say back to degrade others or make fun of them back. Hey, I sometimes do it. It's fun sometimes but it doesn't help you focused under the one thing you're trying to accomplish. Your goal. On the flipside, the ego becomes your friend when you tell yourself that those around you maybe trying to help you. Your ego becomes your friend when you feel that no matter how cruel the opinions come from others, those opinions are nothing more than evidence of their own self-testimonial - a person who talks but has nothing else to show for.
As long as you don't feel or think that the other person is inferior, you have acquired a sense of focus, a controlled ego, a first step into what really matters - Your goal. Whatever it is that you do in life, whether you're writing a book, starting a company, workout to get a body, or just trying to get that business or organization started, how you control your ego makes a difference.
An uncontrolled ego can mean the difference between someone who is consistently ambitious and someone who works hard only when they resent the crowds. Just remember, the key is to be candid with yourself. If your goals are based on a strong purpose to meet your destiny, then you shouldn't stray. As long as your goals are not based on material things and superficial factors, you will be fine...otherwise you will be naked and look pretty foolish whenever the "tide goes down".
Check your ego and don't forget where you came from.
Only from the heart does the journey count. It is the stem of your success.
