Sup all this is my first post on here so id like ta say hello to all :D Ive got a 90 st and ive come into a problem. First off i bought some after market indigo gauges tryed taking them to a few places to see if someone could install them and they all wont touch them. I tryed getting to the speedo gauges myself but when i get to when u gotta take the instrument panel off that has the heater knob n all i couldnt get it off it seemed like the heater cable was what was making it so difficult to take the panel off. Now i cant even turn the heater knob more than half way up cool anyone got any ideas how to fix this or get the instrument cluster off?

P.S. Also got a question for Rad here. Those pacesetter headers u got i was wonderin if u had any problems with emissions with em? im also in northern cali to and i managed to get some of em really cheap and i already painted them myself just i dont wanna waste the time putting them on and have to take em off if they wont pass smog

You should've read one of my reminders.  Don't expect anything you buy to be legal unless it has a EO number on it (Executive Order).  the ARB has a online database of which parts are legal and which are not in Cali.  Click here to see.  The pacesetter (along with ALL the headers that go with the 5th gen) are still not smog legal.  I've actually done a test with SEVERAL smog stations and I'm PASSING because of my high-flow Catalytic Conv installed. The stations wont pass me because it doesn't pass VISUALS! Cali is cracking down on the ones who are doing hookups (bypasses).  But if you are one of the lucky few that can still bypass visuals then by all means get a header...just make sure you get a very good high-flow catalytic converter because NO smog station can hook you up with a passing score.  BYW, I've sent stuff to ARB to get the pacesetters legal and even pacesetter is lobbying to get them CARB compliant since I mentioned passing with them on.

As for your first question, NEVER TOUCH THE HEATER CABLE! I have not figured out how to detach it but I figured out how to get the gauges out safely.  Read this article.  It deals with installing some electronics but it involves getting the guage cluster out.
